DM controlled Factions

These are the factions handled directly by the Dungeon Masters, to join these faction players must apply using the application form. A brief description of all DM controlled factions, and their requirements to join, follows. DMs also want to make clear that players are allowed and encouraged to create their own factions. The Shadowmasters of Telflamm

Ruthless and sinister, the Shadowmasters are one of the most successful and widespread thieves' guilds in all Faerûn. Headquartered in Telflamm, they have a presence in every city in Thesk and the surrounding lands, even managing to establish a guild in Bezantur in Thay. The guild is so closely associated with the church of Mask, Lord of Shadows, that it is often difficult to tell the difference between them. The Shadowmasters have managed to work their way into most of the businesses and institutions of Telflamm, including the weak Merchants' Council that rules the city. However, the trade is the lifeblood of the city, so the Shadowmasters are careful not to let the corruption in the city get so bad as to give the citizens a reason to start actively challenging them.

Character Requirements: Any evil alignment.

City Watch

The City Watch of Telflamm is supposed to maintain law and order within the city, although that job is made more difficult by the fact that the Shadowmasters have such a strong hold on the city and undoubtedly have spies within their ranks. But Captain Fen Haldryon remains incorruptible and has created an elite group know as the Waywardens whose loyalty is unquestionable. A few of the orcs that remained in Thesk after helping defeat the Tuigan invasion have joined the Watch and fill out some of its lower ranks. Separate from the Watch, the city also has a Militia to protect against outside threats, controlled by Prince Balindre.

Character Requirements (for warriors): Weapon Proficiency: Martial.

The Thayan Enclave

Sitting along the southern border, Thay has always looked greedily upon the lands of Thesk, capturing two of its southernmost cities three centuries ago. In 1351, Telflamm granted a concession to Thay, establishing one of the first enclaves, which remains one of the largest and serves as a distribution center for Thayan goods throughout much of northern Faerûn. The enclave is currently run by Khazark Thazal Kakanos and houses several Red Wizards and Thayan Knights in addition to shops and a shrine to Kossuth the Firelord. The land of the enclave is considered Thayan soil, with Thayan laws in effect. The inhabitants of the enclave are always scheming, both against each other and against outsiders, in a constant quest for more power, influence, and gold.

Character Requirements for Red Wizard: New Character; Race: Human; Alignment: Any non good.

Character Requirements for Thayan Knight: New Character; Race: Human; Alignment: Any non good; Weapon Focus: Longsword, Armor Proficiency: Heavy.

Harpers

Those Who Harp believe in the power of individuals, the balance between the wilderness and civilization and the good of humankind and its allied creatures. They preserve the tales of the past so that others may remember its lessons when dealing with the present. Operating in secret mostly in the North and Western Heartlands, they oppose the Red Wizards, Zhentarim, and other evil organizations, so they are likely to have a few agents keeping an eye on things in Telflamm.

Character Requirements: Alignment: Any non evil. Skills: 4 ranks in Lore, 4 ranks in Diplomacy.

The League of the Avenging Hammer

With quiet corruption being the status quo in Telflamm, the forces of good in the city have begun to quietly fight back. Chief among them is The League of the Avenging Hammer, dedicated to the teachings of Tyr the Even-Handed and the other gods of the Triad. They are led by Lady Justicar Vala Destrayl, the high priest of the Hall of the Avenging Hammer, who has launched a crusade against the Shadowmasters and has managed to survive three assassination attempts so far.

Character Requirements: Alignment: Lawful Good, Neutral Good or Lawful Neutral.
